Design for pre-loved treasures - Hey loves, how have you been? It’s been a while! I’ve missed you all BUT I’m back today with a special post and it’s dedicated to my love for designing homes around timeworn treasures.

One of the most exciting parts of my job is being asked to design around clients existing antique, vintage or preloved pieces and I absolutely love doing it. There is something tangible felt in the body when a room has these timeworn treasures, a sensation of connection and authenticity, like the pieces are people, desperate to tell you all the stories behind the scars they bare from a life well lived.

Now I’m not saying new stuff can’t be great, really good design can make you feel just as excited and connected as antiques and vintage pieces, but my passion will always be for heritage homes and finding ways to combine history and home to create soulful interiors that feel authentically you and this gorgeous bedroom features a host of antique and vintage items that showcase a beautiful collection that’s as unique as it is old.

Where am I Wednesday - Living on the edge of Dartmoor means when I get the chance, I can escape with Duke the pooch and just disappear for a while to settle my senses and see what a little exploring finds. I don’t know if anyone else is feeling overwhelmed with the world and life right now. It’s all a little relentless and quiet frankly, soul destroying isn’t it? But there’s always hope in the hills, and although I may not have found the answers to any problems today, a little Goonies style adventure has boosted my energy and lifted my spirit and that, I’m counting as a win. Today I walked from Clearbrook along the Drakes leat. Built in the late 16th century by Sir Francis Drake, it fed water from the River Meavy on Dartmoor down into Plymouth. Hey loves, happy Friday! I hope this week has been a good one for you all. So today I get to share a project with you that I had the pleasure of being part of and the building really is something special. A former police station that is being lovingly renovated by its owners, @oldpolicestation is a great example of how you can combine traditional and contemporary design elements to create interior schemes that express your style and the homes heritage without making it feel like you are living in a museum. The clients had a firm handle on the project and had already commissioned the incredible @parkerhowley_n_co unit, but were unsure on some finishes to unify the scheme after a previous bad experience with tile selections. By combining @mandarinstoneofficial Zappa white Terrazzo effect porcelain tiles for the floor with @bakedtileco 1860 Kensington gardens decor tiles for the shower and @jamesharefabric Suzani stripe fabric for the blinds, the finished room has become a beautiful and elegant sanctuary for the owners to escape to and another room ticked off the renovation list for them. Hey loves, are we all feeling the Christmas spirit yet? I have to be honest, the last 4 weeks have been a busy whirlwind and I’m not feeling as festive as normal. I’ve also found I’m not alone, with others I’ve spoken to saying they are feeling the same for many different reasons. There is something to be said for making an effort though, even if your spirit wants to hibernate away from the stresses and pressures of Christmas. Where am I Wednesday - If you live in Plymouth and love yourself some sea and history, you’ve probably found yourself in this spot a fair few times, it’s The Royal William Yard. The yard is an important part of Plymouths maritime history and a great place to find inspiration and connection. With lots of areas to explore, it is a haven for anyone tired of the strains and pains of everyday life and where you can escape to a different time and another world where everything’s different and anything’s possible. It’s also a great place for a drink and some grub 😋 and where I go to find inspiration and a quiet moment of peace by the sea. Migraine awareness week - Hey folks, now you don’t normally see my face on here but I wanted to share with you something really important to me that has affected me for most of my life and I hope that this post might help others in similar situations.

All migraines are different, but they all have a massive impact on the sufferers work, home and mental health. For me, a migraine attack is a searing, unbearable pain in my head that causes my right eyelid to drop which has caused a permanent eye asymmetry which you can see in this pic. I have waves of pain throughout my body and shivering. I vomit violently and get intense nausea. I also have flashing mental images, some upsetting, like someone is switching a tv channel between random images and horror films. They last about 24hours and leave me feeling completely broken. I have tried a range of medications and alternative therapies to try to cure them.
I’ve been mocked so many times by people who don’t know how debilitating they are and accused of trying to get out of things like work or events. Trust me, I 100% would rather be wresting a rhino with a soggy noodle than have a migraine. We aren’t faking anything and no it really isn’t “just a headache”.
So if you suffer from migraine and need support or advice, go to @migrainetrust and join the community and for those lucky enough to not have them, I just ask for some understanding and compassion for something we have no real control over.
